Description
The design transforms the existing farm with barns into a lively "woonerf" ensemble with two new barn houses, a hay barrack, and a large shed. The existing farm structures will become two modern single family homes.
The orientation of the new volumes around the "erf" is such that it creates beautiful sight-lines to the surrounding landscape.
The two new barn-style homes, and its existing farm together create an ensemble that define a social gathering space between them, creating a rural "woonerf", or living courtyard. Though a similar style, the homes are to be inhabited by different family groups so they have distinct spatial configurations, ensuring privacy where desired, and visual connection to the outdoors as well as the social space.
Each building has its own form, function, and role within the ensemble.
